TS-LKD Approves Local Election Program With Five Commitments for Every Community

Lithuania’s Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats, known as TS-LKD, have approved their program for the 2027 municipal elections. The party says every local branch will present residents with five concrete commitments for its municipality.

The program, titled “Local Government for Every Day,” sets out 10 basic principles and a model for delivering those commitments. Each proposed project is to include a clear timetable, budget and personal responsibility for the outcome.

The party says municipal company and institution managers should be selected for competence rather than political loyalty. It also promises to reduce the paperwork demanded from residents when state institutions can obtain the information themselves. “Our standard is less bureaucracy and more respect for people’s time,” the program states.

TS-LKD lists four main priorities: security and resilience in a crisis, family-friendly local government, lower bills and practical administration, and a supportive environment for work and business. Its proposals include increasing the number of prepared shelters and creating local resilience centers with information, communications, backup power and temporary accommodation during crises.

The party also promises a kindergarten place for every child, better access to extracurricular activities and an expanded network of full-day schools. It says municipalities should reduce energy waste, develop local energy generation, renovate their least energy-efficient buildings and make waste management more transparent. Business-friendly infrastructure is another commitment.

The convention also confirmed Palanga Mayor Šarūnas Vaitkus as another deputy to party leader Laurynas Kasčiūnas. Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi attended. TS-LKD has so far approved 30 mayoral candidates, and regular municipal council and mayoral elections will take place in Lithuania in spring 2027.
