Tunnel Collapse in Adana Claims Two Lives, Death Toll Rises

A tunnel construction project in Adana, Turkey, turned tragic when a collapse occurred, claiming the lives of two workers. The incident took place yesterday in the Eğriçam neighborhood during excavation work for the Yedigöze Drinking Water Project, managed by the Adana ASKİ General Directorate.

Emergency services, including AFAD, health, and fire brigades, were dispatched to the scene immediately after the collapse was reported. Five workers were trapped underground. Necmettin Tok, 55, was confirmed dead at the scene, while Bekir Çelik was rescued with serious injuries and transported to the hospital.

Tragically, Bekir Çelik succumbed to his injuries this morning at Adana City Hospital, bringing the total death toll to two. Three other workers managed to escape the collapse using their own means without sustaining serious injuries.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the tunnel collapse. The incident highlights the inherent dangers of large-scale infrastructure projects and the critical need for stringent safety protocols in construction.
