Turbulent times for megaproject Port Polska: New tender schedule coming

The ambitious Central Communication Port (CPK) project in Poland is undergoing significant leadership changes, with the recent dismissal of CEO Filip Czernicki and Vice President Dariusz Kuś. The company responsible for the massive infrastructure undertaking announced the decision on Friday, signaling a shift in the project's direction.

Sources indicate that these leadership changes are linked to the project's entry into a new phase, particularly concerning the design and preparatory work for the crucial "Y" railway connection. This high-speed rail link is intended to connect the new airport to major cities like Warsaw and Łódź, with future extensions planned for Poznań and Wrocław. The high-speed rail station, alongside the airport itself, is envisioned as a central element of the Port Polska development near Warsaw.

The railway component is considered vital to the CPK project and is a particular focus for Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and government plenipotentiary for CPK, Piotr Malepszak. Malepszak, known for his expertise in railways and family background in the sector, previously held a vice president position at CPK overseeing the railway component. His earlier comments in June suggested that underperformers would be replaced, hinting at potential dissatisfaction with the pace of preparatory work for the rail infrastructure.

In addition to the leadership changes, CPK plans to publish an updated tender schedule for 2026 in the near future. While not a complete overhaul, the schedule will be adjusted to reflect the current state of preparation for various tenders. The company stated that the plan is updated in line with progress in design work, administrative decisions, and the finalization of documentation for individual procurement processes. Tenders for the airport itself have progressed, including those for security control systems, access roads, and power supply, with contracts already signed for baggage handling and foundational work for the passenger terminal. For the railway component, competitive dialogue has begun for the construction of a tunnel and station beneath the airport, and proceedings are underway for the first sections of the high-speed rail line between Warsaw and Łódź.
