TVRI West Sumatra holds low-cost food drive in Padang

TVRI West Sumatra joined the provincial food agency and Indonesia’s National Food Agency to hold a low-cost food drive in Padang on Wednesday.

The event formed part of celebrations for Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day and the 64th anniversary of TVRI West Sumatra. Organizers sold staple foods at special prices, including shallots and garlic for Rp25,000 per kilogram, Sari Murni cooking oil for Rp21,000 per liter, Minyakita oil for Rp15,000 per liter, sugar for Rp18,000 per kilogram and rice for Rp160,000 per sack.

TVRI West Sumatra station head TB M Yusuf Hidayat said the activity had become a regular annual collaboration and was entering its fourth year. He said residents had responded positively because the program offered essential goods at prices well below the market.

The food drive took place at the office of the Food Distribution, Supply and Access Technical Implementation Unit on Jalan Bu Pass Kilometer 15 in Padang’s Koto Tangah district. Organizers said the program was intended to reduce household spending while helping maintain regional food security and purchasing power.
