Two Horses Die After Head-On Collision With Car

Two horses tragically lost their lives after colliding with a car on a state road near Arrach in the Cham district of Bavaria. The accident occurred as the horses, which had escaped from a nearby pasture, ran into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

The horses came from a pasture that is about three kilometers away from the accident site. The pasture was secured with an intact electric fence.

The 18-year-old driver of the car suffered minor injuries in the collision. The horses, reportedly from a pasture about three kilometers away, were found to have escaped despite an intact electric fence. The exact circumstances of their escape remain unclear.

Police had received a report of loose horses shortly before the incident, and a patrol car was en route. A witness was reportedly following the horses with hazard lights flashing. However, the horses entered the opposing lane of traffic. Due to poor visibility caused by fog, the driver was unable to brake in time to avoid the collision.

How the horses nevertheless managed to escape from the pasture and get onto the road is currently unclear.

While accidents involving escaped horses are not uncommon in the region due to the prevalence of horse ownership, this is reportedly the first such incident for this particular owner. Investigations are ongoing to determine how the animals managed to leave their enclosure and end up on the road.
