Two men sentenced to 15 years for beating elderly man to death in Uruguay

Two men have been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the brutal beating death of a 70-year-old man in Paysandú, Uruguay. The investigation was initiated when the victim's family reported him missing. Police discovered the elderly man's body in his home, located between Artigas and Ledesma streets, with significant injuries to his skull and face.

According to Cecilia Irigoyen, the prosecutor in the case, the attackers are believed to have entered the victim's residence by breaking through a fence from an adjacent abandoned property. The victim reportedly surprised them during the intrusion, leading to a physical confrontation. One of the convicted men was a neighbor who had previously assisted the victim with errands and money.

The conviction was secured through an abbreviated legal process, where the defendants admitted their responsibility for the homicide. Both individuals will serve their full 15-year sentences in prison.
