Two serious traffic accidents cause delays in Punta Carretas and Pocitos

Traffic in Montevideo's Punta Carretas and Pocitos neighborhoods slowed considerably on Thursday following two separate accidents. One incident resulted in a woman being seriously injured, while another saw a pedestrian struck by a bus.

The most severe case occurred in Punta Carretas, where a 43-year-old woman was hit by a car at the intersection of Luis de la Torre and José María Montero. According to reports, one vehicle failed to yield at a "cede el paso" (yield) sign, striking the woman as she crossed the street. She was found beneath one of the vehicles and was transported to the Integral Medical Service (SMI) by ambulance. The other driver involved in this collision was unharmed. Scientific Police processed the scene.

Hours later, a second accident took place in Pocitos at Rivera and Francisco Araúcho. A pedestrian was hit by a bus and sustained a head injury with loss of consciousness, which later recovered, and chest trauma. This victim was also taken to a medical center. A passenger on the bus suffered minor injuries from the sudden braking and was treated at the scene. The bus driver's alcohol test registered zero.
