Two tribal elders shot dead in Pakistan's Lower South Waziristan

Two tribal elders were shot dead by unidentified armed men in the Zarmilan area of Lower South Waziristan on Sunday, police reported. The victims, identified as Haji Gul and Malik Badshah of the Suleman Khel tribe, were traveling in a vehicle when the attack occurred. They sustained multiple bullet wounds and died at the scene.

Police have registered a report and launched an investigation, examining all aspects of the incident and working to apprehend the assailants. Lower South Waziristan, like other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, continues to grapple with security issues, including targeted killings, bomb blasts, and extortion.

Tribal elders and their families have increasingly become targets in recent months. This incident follows similar attacks, such as a May 2026 bombing that killed a tribal elder and two others, and the June 2026 shooting deaths of two sons of another tribal elder.

Police have registered a preliminary report at the Toi Khulla police station and launched an investigation into the incident. Every aspect of the incident is being examined, and efforts are under way to trace and arrest the assailants.
