Typhoon Worsens Riverbank Erosion, Threatening Private Land and Embankment

Private land along the Zhonggang River in Toufen City is facing severe erosion, with recent impacts from Typhoon Bavi worsening the situation. Local councilor Chen Kuang-hsuan reported that the erosion has extended over 100 meters, raising concerns that the encroaching river could consume private property and undermine the Toufen embankment.

Chen Kuang-hsuan, after a site inspection with representatives from the Second River Management Office and concerned citizens, noted the unstable soil conditions. He expressed worry that further heavy rainfall could push the erosion close to the embankment's foundation, potentially jeopardizing the safety of the Binjiang Street area within Toufen City.

The affected private land has been subjected to persistent erosion from heavy rains and river currents. Previous attempts to mitigate the damage, including the placement of wave-dissipating blocks and concrete blocks, have proven insufficient. The typhoon's impact has intensified the erosion, with some cultivated land nearly submerged and significantly reduced in width.

Officials are now tasked with reviewing relevant data within a week to understand the causes of the river's deep channel flow deviating and eroding the right bank. Plans include adjusting the upstream flow and implementing appropriate construction methods for immediate protection to prevent further expansion of the damage.
