Ukraine appeals IOC decision to allow Russian athletes to CAS

Ukraine has formally appealed the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to permit Russian athletes to participate in international competitions. The appeal, filed with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), challenges the IOC's stance amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Kyiv argues that allowing Russian athletes to compete, even under neutral status, is unacceptable given Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainian officials maintain that Russian athletes are representatives of a state engaged in aggression and should therefore face a ban, similar to sanctions imposed on Russia in other sectors.

The IOC's decision has been a point of contention, with many international sports federations and national Olympic committees grappling with how to address the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes.
