Ukraine's naval drones sink 'Rosatom' container ship in Black Sea

Ukraine has reported the sinking of a Russian container ship in the Black Sea, attributing the attack to two Ukrainian naval drones. The vessel, identified as belonging to "Rosatom," reportedly went down on the night of August 1, approximately 130 miles from Novorossiysk.

All 17 crew members aboard the ship were successfully rescued. The head of "Rosatom" described the vessel as an ordinary container ship transporting civilian goods, ranging from frozen products to construction and finishing materials. He condemned the attack, stating, "Such an attack cannot be interpreted as anything other than piracy and sea robbery."

According to the publication "Astra," the container ship "FESCO Janina" joined the "Rosatom" fleet in September 2021. The ship measures 142 meters in length and 22 meters in width, with a capacity of 962 containers. The crew consists of 14 individuals.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged the strikes, tweeting, "Grateful to Ukrainian warriors who are bringing the war back to Russia and responding to its attacks against life. Our targets are consistently defined facilities that sustain the war effort."
