Ukraine strikes Russian energy sites, deepening fuel crisis in Crimea and across Russia

Ukraine's recent missile and drone strikes on key Russian energy infrastructure have significantly altered the perception of the war for many Russians, transforming it from a minor inconvenience into an acute and worsening fuel crisis. Currently, two-thirds of Russia's 83 regions report fuel supply problems, impacting millions of residents and threatening business operations.

The crisis is especially severe in Crimea, where authorities have declared a state of emergency and banned all fuel trade, effectively collapsing the peninsula's vital tourism sector. On Sunday, Ukrainian defenders reportedly struck a "Čornomornaftogaz" facility in the Vnukovo district of Russian-occupied Crimea. This facility was crucial for natural gas and oil extraction, storage, and transportation, and also supplied fuel to Russian military forces in the region.

According to Ukraine's General Staff, strikes on July 26 targeted several military and economically important Russian sites to degrade their capabilities. The "Čornomornaftogaz" facility was confirmed as successfully hit. Additionally, a ground relay station in the Chornomorske district of Crimea, used to control "Geran" and "Gerbera" military drones, was also targeted. These drones are utilized by Russia for attacks within Ukrainian territory, and the relay stations enhance their operational range and control stability.

Beyond Crimea, Ukrainian forces also struck a road bridge near the settlement of Vyselky in the Donetsk region, used by Russian forces for military logistics. A warehouse for enemy drones near Chervonopopivka and a concentration of Russian troops in the Purdivka district of Luhansk region were also hit. These actions are part of Ukraine's strategy to disrupt Russian oil exports, which fund its war effort, by targeting refineries, storage facilities, and "shadow fleet" vessels.
