Ukraine unveils AI platform 'Maricika' to speed up battlefield decisions

Ukraine's Armed Forces are enhancing their battlefield capabilities with "Maricika," a new command and analysis platform powered by artificial intelligence. Developed by the Central Research Institute of the Armed Forces, the system aims to significantly reduce the time military commanders need to analyze information and make operational decisions.

Colonel Yurii Kliat, director of the institute, explained that current decision-making processes can take between six to twelve hours, involving the review of numerous documents and assessment of various battlefield factors. "Maricika" centralizes available information, automatically calculates force ratios, and proposes multiple courses of action. "The system evaluates different scenarios and models possible courses of action, but the final decision always belongs to the commander," Kliat stated.

Developers claim the platform could shorten the decision-preparation process to mere minutes. "In the current conditions of war, where the situation on the front can change rapidly, a decision made after six hours may already be outdated," Kliat added, highlighting the urgency for faster responses.

The "Maricika" system is currently in an operational prototype stage. Following successful testing, the plan is to integrate it into secure military networks and obtain necessary authorizations for processing classified information. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by Ukraine to incorporate AI into its command and control systems, aiming for improved information processing, troop leadership, and resource management on the battlefield, according to Andrii Lebedenko, deputy commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces.
