Ukrainian drone hits bus in Russia, kills five, injures 23

A Ukrainian drone deliberately struck a passenger bus in Russia's Shebekino city, near the border, killing five civilians, including a teenager, and injuring 23 others, according to the acting governor of Russia's Belgorod region.

The governor described the attack as "inhuman and despicable." This incident is the latest in a series of escalating cross-border attacks between Russia and Ukraine. Kyiv has intensified its retaliatory strikes in recent weeks, causing significant disruptions in Russia, including fuel shortages.

Meanwhile, Russia has continued its bombardment of Ukraine. Earlier on Monday, Russian strikes in Pavlograd and Kramatorsk killed two people each, and another person died in a Russian bombing in Zaporizhzhia. Ukraine's authorities reported that dozens have been killed by Russian missile strikes this month.

Ukraine also launched multiple drones toward the Moscow region earlier on Monday, causing fires and injuring at least 10 people, according to Russian reports. Both countries, which deny targeting civilians, have engaged in frequent aerial attacks against each other throughout the nearly four-and-a-half-year-old war. United Nations data indicates that civilian deaths in Ukraine in June were higher than in any other month since April 2022.
