UMJ hosts HIMAPOLINDO national meeting, promoting popular economic sovereignty

Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta hosted the 2026 national working meeting and national dialogue of the Indonesian Political Science Students Association, HIMAPOLINDO, under a theme linking popular sovereignty to Article 33 of Indonesia's 1945 Constitution and a people's economy.

UMJ Rector Ma'mun Murod stressed that students should build formal communication with state institutions, including the House of Representatives. He said political problems affect many areas of public life, from high education costs to stunting. He also urged political science students to speak up on party-related regulations and communicate with policymakers.

Mardianto, a director of PT Palma Pertiwi Makmur, expressed support for efforts to build Indonesia's food and energy sovereignty. He said the company was ready to help with ideas and needs related to the national interest.

We are ready to help with ideas and needs related to the common interest in supporting food and energy sovereignty for the nation.

HIMAPOLINDO chairman for 2026-2028, Rosyad Fauzi, said students had a responsibility to take an active role in determining the nation's direction. He called on the organization to become a reference point for social issues and developments in Indonesian political science, warning students not to remain passive.

Deputy Manpower Minister Afriansyah Noor, who delivered the keynote speech, told students to assess information critically and not be easily influenced by social media. He said political science must be understood through direct contact with social realities, not only theory. He also pointed to global geopolitical and economic conditions affecting employment, including production declines and layoffs across several countries, and highlighted the government's Magang Hub, or National Internship, program as support for new graduates seeking work experience.

We must not remain silent and do nothing. HIMAPOLINDO must become a reference for social issues and political science developing in Indonesia. As educated people, we must take an active role in determining the direction of our nation.
