UniAbuja law student wins West African speech contest in Sierra Leone

Amra Salihu, a 500-level law student at the University of Abuja, has brought regional recognition to her institution by winning the 9th Inter-Universities Speech Contest. The event, organized by the Intergovernmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), took place in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Our students from the Faculty of Law have once again made the university proud. I congratulate them on this great achievement.

Salihu earned her spot in the regional competition by winning a national selection process coordinated by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU). She then outperformed contestants from The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Ghana to secure the top title. Her victory was announced by the university's Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Mr. Habib Yakoob.

I also commend the Faculty of Law and the Law Clinic for their efforts in the training and mentorship of the students.

The triumphant student was awarded a winner's plaque, a certificate of honor, and a cash prize of $1,000. Another student from the university, Abah Goodness, attended the event as an observer. The university's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi, expressed pride in Salihu's accomplishment, highlighting the Faculty of Law and the Law Clinic's role in her training and mentorship. He affirmed the university's commitment to enhancing its global visibility through academic excellence and such outstanding achievements.
