UNIMAC Library refurbishes Accra Psychiatric Hospital washroom

The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UNIMAC) Library has refurbished washroom facilities at the Male Observation Ward of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital. This initiative marks the library's maiden Library Week celebration and supports Sustainable Development Goal 3 on Good Health and Well-being.

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals requires collective effort, stressing that institutions and individuals all had a role to play in national development.

The project involved renovating two washrooms, installing new basins, and tiling floors and walls to enhance sanitation. University Librarian Lydia Nyantakyi-Baah stated the project reflects the library's commitment to national development and public well-being, noting it's part of broader community engagement efforts.

Nyantakyi-Baah emphasized that achieving SDGs requires collective effort and that good health is crucial for productivity. She thanked university management, staff, faculty, and students for their support, and acknowledged Twyford Company for donating materials.

Mental health support The Deputy Director of Administration at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Hanson Torde, commended the university and its partners for supporting mental healthcare delivery.

Hanson Torde, Deputy Director of Administration at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, commended the university's contribution to mental healthcare. He stressed that mental health challenges are often invisible and can affect anyone. Torde urged increased support for mental healthcare, advocating for the hospital to be treated like any other health facility and appealing for efforts to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
