Unique Mural in Con Dao Tells Story of a Unified Vietnam

A striking mural project celebrating a unified Vietnam has been unveiled in Con Dao. Titled "Beautiful Vietnam," the artwork recounts the story of a united nation and its development following administrative reforms and mergers. The inauguration ceremony, held on July 25, was attended by the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Tran Luu Quang. The project coincides with several significant anniversaries: the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day, the 81st anniversary of the People's Public Security Force's traditional day, and the 21st anniversary of the National Defense Day for the Entire People. Situated amidst the grand seascape of Con Dao, the mural is envisioned as a new public art landmark. It not only showcases the country's beauty post-administrative consolidation but also narrates the tale of a unified, culturally rich Vietnam striving for progress through evocative visual language. Unlike isolated murals, this work is designed as a continuous panorama, stretching across five walls near the mountainside along the road from Con Dao center to the airport. It forms a cohesive whole, aligned along a north-south axis. Each section of the mural presents a typical snapshot of the nature, history, culture, and daily life of various localities. These are woven together into a continuous visual narrative, guiding viewers on a journey across Vietnam, from majestic highlands and fertile plains to sacred islands. A distinctive feature is the careful selection of iconic landmarks representing the 34 administrative units formed after the mergers. The chosen images reflect landscape value, historical-cultural depth, regional symbolism, and community recognition. Each locality is presented as a unique "musical note," contributing to a collective epic of a unified, developing, and integrating Vietnam. The project transcends mere artistic value, serving as an experiential educational space. Through realistic depictions combined with a modern style, viewers can easily access information about the geography, history, and culture of each region. Each painting opens a new story, each image evokes tradition, people, and the distinctive hallmarks of hometowns, thereby nurturing love for the country, national pride, and the awareness to preserve Vietnamese cultural values. The dominant color palette features the blues of the sea and forests, complemented by natural light, creating a sense of freshness, openness, and harmony with the Con Dao landscape. The accessible artistic language ensures that people of all ages can engage with the work, maintaining its aesthetic appeal for the long term and transforming it into a cultural gathering space.
