Universitas Terbuka (UT), Indonesia's leading distance learning institution, convened its 2026 Management Review Meeting (RTM) in Surabaya to meticulously evaluate its quality and governance. This annual forum is crucial for ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality education amidst the rapidly evolving landscape of higher education.

RTM is a strategic evaluation space to ensure the effectiveness of governance. It emphasizes the importance of consistency between policy and implementation in the field in building academic reputation.

The RTM served as a strategic platform for UT to bridge the gap between policy and implementation, bringing together 259 leaders from its central and regional offices. Discussions centered on academic and non-academic performance, internal quality assessments, and risk management. A key focus was placed on transparency and accountability in governance, with insights also drawn from external bodies like the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Four primary areas were scrutinized: overall governance, academic quality, the effectiveness of distance learning services, and the institution's reach and accessibility. UT Rector Ali Muktiyanto stressed the importance of these evaluations for adapting to technological shifts and meeting societal demands. He highlighted UT's extensive network as a core strength for expanding educational access, emphasizing the need to bolster the digital learning ecosystem to ensure equitable service delivery, even in the most remote areas.
