UPNM Strengthens Welfare Governance with Reappointment as Endowment Trustee and Tithe Agent

Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) has solidified its commitment to enhancing the socioeconomic well-being of its community through significant appointments. The university has had its mandate as Mutawalli Wakaf, or endowment trustee, extended, and has also been officially designated as an Ejen Zakat, a tithe collection agent for the Federal Territories.

These strategic appointments were formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed on the UPNM campus, involving collaborations with Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP) and Pusat Pungutan Zakat (PPZ-MAIWP). This partnership empowers UPNM to directly manage, administer, and distribute wakaf funds, as well as collect zakat. The initiative is designed to streamline processes for the university's community and the wider local population.

UPNM's Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General Datuk Arman Rumaizi Ahmad, stressed the importance of these roles, describing them as significant trusts that demand integrity and efficient, transparent governance. "The renewed trust as Mutawalli Wakaf and the confidence placed in us as Ejen Zakat further strengthens the university's resolve to drive welfare efforts alongside MAIWP," he stated.

The university pledges to improve the efficiency of zakat collection and distribution, ensuring that these funds serve as a strategic instrument for socioeconomic transformation and create educational opportunities for students. This collaboration is also expected to extend into strengthening research, fostering community development, and holistically improving the living standards of the needy (asnaf).
