Uruguay begins to exit winter's coldest period with gradual temperature moderation

Uruguay is set to experience a gradual warming trend as it moves past the peak of its winter season. While the coldest days are behind, residents can expect a slow moderation of temperatures in the coming week. The shift, however, will be nuanced, with lingering cold mornings and the continued presence of frost in certain regions.

Meteorologist Mario Bidegain anticipates a slight increase in maximum temperatures starting Monday, reaching around 9-10°C, and climbing to 13°C by Tuesday. Despite this rise, he cautioned that Tuesday morning will remain "very cold," with frost likely inland. This indicates that while the harshest winter conditions are receding, the chill will not disappear overnight.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) forecasts align with this outlook for the Montevideo metropolitan area. Monday is expected to see temperatures between 6°C and 10°C, with morning cloudiness and showers giving way to clearer conditions later. Winds from the southwest and west could reach speeds of up to 50 km/h. Tuesday's forecast for the capital includes a low of 3°C and a high of 13°C, with early frost possible before cloud cover increases in the afternoon.

Looking towards the end of the week, Bidegain predicts a shift towards more humid conditions. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are expected to be overcast with southeasterly winds, leading to grayer days compared to the start of the week. This suggests a transition from the recent intense cold to more moderate afternoons, but with persistent cold mornings and increasing humidity as the week concludes.
