Uruguay’s Defense Ministry opens recruitment for department head with $165,938 salary

Uruguay’s Ministry of Defense has opened a public competition to appoint a head of the Energy and Gases Plant at the National Defense Health Directorate. The position offers a nominal salary of 165,938 pesos at 2026 values.

The successful applicant will work 40 hours a week under a public-function contract. The initial appointment will last 12 months, with possible extensions for a maximum total period of four years.

The department head will manage the operation and maintenance of the plant’s equipment and facilities, as well as its staff. The post includes responsibility for ensuring a continuous supply of electricity, steam, hot sanitary water and medical fluids such as oxygen, medical air, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide.

The role also covers predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance, whether carried out by in-house staff or contracted companies. The appointee will oversee the purchase of equipment and materials, manage service contracts through tender procedures, supervise technical personnel and organize continuing training.

The position includes membership of a technical advisory commission appointed by the Presidency to oversee purchases of medical fluids, including home oxygen therapy for patients across Uruguay. Mandatory requirements include certified training in energy and gases, at least three years of directly related experience, being at least 18, valid identity and health documents, no prior dismissal from the public administration, and natural or legal citizenship held for three years.
