September’s Día del Centro confirmed, with three hours of free parking

Montevideo’s traditional Día del Centro will return for three days in September, bringing discounts and other benefits to the city’s central neighborhoods.

The event, organized by Grupo Centro, will run from Thursday, September 10, through Saturday, September 12, 2026. It will cover Centro, Cordón and Ciudad Vieja, an area promoted as the city’s largest open-air shopping district.

The organizers describe the event as more than a retail promotion. The area includes over 400 stores across different sectors, as well as theaters, museums, other arts venues, established bars and restaurants. Its architectural route includes 18 de Julio Avenue, Ciudad Vieja and Cordón, where part of Montevideo’s heritage is concentrated.

The initiative aims to boost commercial activity in the central area and encourage family shopping during the end of the week. To make access easier, the Municipality of Montevideo will offer three hours of free parking in its paid parking spaces within the event perimeter.

Drivers are advised to request a parking ticket when making a purchase and to register the vehicle through the available parking system. The ticket will carry no charge after parking ends, as long as the three-hour limit is not exceeded.
