US: Artists withdraw from 250th anniversary events; Trump cancels entire concert series

U.S. President Donald Trump has canceled a series of concerts initially planned to celebrate the nation's 250th independence anniversary in Washington. Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that a "world's greatest gathering" would take place on June 24 instead, stating, "We don't want any un-gifted singers that cost a fortune but bore the audience. We told them to stay home. All we want is you, me, a few speakers, and the best music, the same you have been listening to for years!"

The concerts were part of the Great American State Fair event scheduled from June 25 to July 10. However, shortly after the performer lineup was announced, several artists withdrew their participation due to Trump's involvement. Among those pulling out were The Commodores, Young MC, Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, and Milli Vanilli.

These artists reportedly cited that they were invited to perform at a non-political event, which later revealed itself to be organized by the Trump administration. The artists justified their refusal by stating their initial understanding was for a non-partisan celebration.

According to Trump, the "world's greatest gathering" will feature country singer Lee Greenwood, military choirs, and the president himself. Greenwood has a history of performing at Trump's campaign events. The cancellation and subsequent artist withdrawals highlight the politicization of national celebrations under the Trump administration.
