US attacks Iran again in 'significant escalation,' UN chief concerned

The U.S. military has launched a fourth wave of attacks against Iran, aiming to degrade its capacity to threaten commercial shipping in the vital Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Central Command (Centcom) announced on the platform X that the strikes began at 11:00 PM CEST, targeting multiple locations with precision munitions.

According to Centcom, the operation destroyed dozens of targets, including air defense systems, radar facilities, missile launch sites, drone bases, and small boats. The U.S. military emphasized its commitment to ensuring freedom of navigation in the strait, asserting that Iran does not control this crucial global trade corridor.

Iranian state television reported explosions near the city of Sirik and west of Bandar Abbas. U.S. media, citing government officials, indicated that the attacks focused on missile sites and air defense installations, as well as Revolutionary Guard Corps vessels.

Meanwhile, Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed to have attacked U.S. military targets and bases in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain, according to state media. These claims include strikes on an air force base in Jordan, a U.S. drone command center in Bahrain, and bases in Kuwait.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres voiced profound concern over the "significant escalation," warning that a return to full-scale hostilities could have catastrophic consequences for regional and global security and the world economy. He strongly urged both Iran and the U.S. to immediately resume negotiations and resolve outstanding issues diplomatically.
