US Forms Task Force Against 'Birth Tourism,' Over 600 Visas Canceled

The U.S. State Department has launched a joint task force with the Department of Homeland Security to combat "birth tourism," a practice where foreign nationals travel to the United States to give birth, thereby obtaining U.S. citizenship for their child. This initiative follows directives from President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The new task force will meticulously examine the travel histories and activities of visa holders. Its primary objective is to identify individuals suspected of engaging in or facilitating birth tourism. Those found to be involved will face visa cancellations. The department also aims to expose organizations that profit from this practice.

According to the department, some intermediaries pose as doulas, midwives, or health consultants. They offer services such as "birth in the U.S.," visa consultations, and hospital arrangements. In certain cases, fraudulent health documents have been issued, or applicants have been guided to conceal their true travel intentions.

The State Department issued a stern warning, stating that foreign nationals who intentionally make false declarations about their travel purposes could become permanently ineligible for U.S. visas or entry into the country. "Citizenship is not a commodity to be obtained through the planned abuse of our immigration laws," the department declared, emphasizing that measures against birth tourism will continue.
