User won nearly S/14,850 in football bet, but DoradoBet refused to pay: Indecopi fined the company over S/19,000

Peru's consumer protection agency, Indecopi, has confirmed that DoradoBet must pay a user S/14,850 after the company unjustifiably refused to honor five sports bets that met the established conditions. The decision, issued by the Commission for Consumer Protection No. 2 on final administrative appeal, came after analyzing evidence from both parties.

The case originated from a football bet placed during a match between Los Chancas CYC and Comerciantes Unidos. The consumer bet that player Ayrthon Quintana would have more than 2.5 shots during the game, meaning at least three shots. However, DoradoBet classified the bets as losing, asserting that the footballer only took two shots. The company based its decision on information from specialized platforms like ESPN, Sofascore, and Flashscore.

Indecopi's review of the official match broadcast by Liga 1 MAX contradicted DoradoBet's records. The commission identified four shots by the player, even specifying the minute each occurred. The agency also noted that DoradoBet failed to provide a technical explanation for why these plays were not considered when settling the bets.

Each of the five bets was placed for S/660, with each generating a profit of S/2,970, totaling S/14,850. Consequently, the commission upheld the corrective measure, ordering DoradoBet to pay the winnings to the consumer. In addition to the payout, Indecopi ratified a fine of 3.49 UIT (approximately S/19,195) against Interplay Word S.A.C., the operator of DoradoBet, for failing to provide adequate service.

While this resolution concludes the administrative process, it can still be challenged in the judiciary.
