Users reporting Facebook, Instagram outage: Downdetector

Social media users are reporting significant outages on Facebook and Instagram, with real-time outage monitor Downdetector tracking numerous reports. Both platforms are owned by the tech giant Meta.

According to Downdetector.com, which compiles status reports from various sources, Pakistani users began reporting Facebook problems around 12:26 PM, with reports continuing to rise. In the United States, the number of reports peaked at 4,587 around 12:58 PM before beginning to decline. Similarly, Instagram saw a sharp increase in outage reports starting around 12:30 PM in Pakistan, while the US recorded 4,044 reports by 1:34 PM, with the numbers still climbing.

This incident is not unprecedented for Meta. Last month, the company's social networks experienced downtime affecting thousands of users, prompting a statement from company spokesperson Andy Stone. In March 2024, Meta suffered a major, unusual outage that locked users out of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads for several hours.
