UT Inaugurates Six Professors, Addressing Environmental Solutions and Governance

Universitas Terbuka (UT) celebrated the inauguration of six new professors, who are set to contribute research-driven insights to address pressing development challenges. The ceremony, held at the UT Convention Center in Tangerang Selatan, highlighted a range of innovative ideas aimed at tackling complex societal problems.

Rector Ali Muktiyanto stressed that the inauguration of professors is more than an academic formality; it represents a commitment to delivering research outcomes that offer tangible solutions for the community. He noted that the diverse expertise of the six professors underscores the need for interdisciplinary approaches to future challenges.

The newly appointed professors will focus on various areas, including education, public governance, environmental sustainability, literacy, artificial intelligence, and the protection of migrant workers. One notable contribution comes from Edi Rusdiyanto, who introduced the River-Settlement Symbiotic System (RS3) concept. This approach views rivers as integral living spaces that require integrated management alongside residential areas, aiming to improve environmental quality, enhance urban resilience, and mitigate disaster risks.

Muktiyanto further stated that the research presented by the professors demonstrates that university research should extend beyond academic findings to form the basis for practical solutions benefiting society. For UT, he concluded, the title of professor signifies not an endpoint but the beginning of a greater responsibility to generate thought leadership relevant to contemporary needs.
