Vasco da Gama signs Argentine attacker Facundo Colidio

Rio de Janeiro – Brazilian football club Vasco da Gama announced Friday the signing of Argentine forward Facundo Colidio, acquired from River Plate. The 26-year-old attacker has penned a contract that extends just over three years, keeping him with the Rio de Janeiro club until the end of 2029.

Vasco da Gama confirmed the transfer on social media, with Colidio arriving in Rio de Janeiro on Friday to undergo medical examinations and finalize the agreement. While the club has not disclosed the exact transfer fee, press reports suggest they have paid $4.5 million for 50% of the player's federative rights. Vasco da Gama also holds an option to purchase the remaining 50% for an additional $5 million.

Colidio expressed high expectations for his move, stating, "I have very high expectations (with the arrival at the Brazilian team). I am very well and come from a big club. I want to return to the highest level." He joins Vasco da Gama as their second reinforcement during the current transfer window, following the earlier signing of right-back Paulinho.

The Argentine forward scored 32 goals in 136 appearances for River Plate since joining in 2023. However, he faced competition for a starting position during the team's less successful recent season. Colidio, who holds both Argentine and Italian citizenship, previously played for clubs including Inter Milan's youth academy, Sint-Truiden in Belgium, and Tigre in Argentina before his move to River Plate. He will aim to help Vasco da Gama in their campaigns in the Copa Sudamericana, Copa do Brasil, and the Brazilian Championship, where the team is currently fighting to avoid the relegation zone.
