Venezuela Condemns Berlin Pride Attack, Expresses Solidarity with Victims

Venezuela has condemned an alleged Islamist attack that occurred during Berlin's Pride celebrations, resulting in one death and 29 injuries. The incident took place in Tiergarten park during the Christopher Street Day Parade.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia expressed condolences and deep solidarity with the victims and their families via X (formerly Twitter). He stated that Venezuela rejects "all forms of violence, hatred, and extremism." The Venezuelan Observatory of LGBTIQ+ Violence also voiced solidarity and condemned the extremist act targeting the LGBTQ+ community.

Berlin police special forces fatally shot the main suspect, 21-year-old German national Abdul Ballout, less than 24 hours after the attack. The suspect was located in Spandau, reportedly on property owned by his father. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt had previously classified the attack as "Islamist."

Authorities are investigating whether Ballout had accomplices, and several associates have been arrested for questioning. The attack involved a van ramming into people, initially leaving one woman dead and three critically injured. While the critically injured are no longer in life-threatening danger, they remain in intensive care.
