Venezuela offers cooperation to Peru after earthquake

Venezuela has offered its full cooperation to Peru after a powerful earthquake struck the Andean nation's central highlands. The magnitude 5.1 quake, followed by a 3.7 aftershock, left at least six people dead and more than 30 injured in the Junín region.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia conveyed the country's "deepest solidarity" with the Peruvian people and government in a message posted on X. He reaffirmed Venezuela's "unwavering commitment of brotherhood and willingness to cooperate" during this difficult time.

Official sources reported that the earthquake primarily impacted the district of Chongos Bajo, located about 300 kilometers east of Lima. The tremors caused damage to homes, power lines, and tourist facilities. The main quake occurred at 9:24 p.m. Saturday, with its epicenter 7 kilometers south of Chongos Bajo at a depth of 24 kilometers. A smaller aftershock followed 17 minutes later.
