Venezuelan arrested in Mexico for "gota a gota" extortion, threatened victim's family

Authorities in Huixquilucan, Mexico, have arrested a 32-year-old Venezuelan national, identified as Jhonarth "N," in connection with an extortion scheme known as "gota a gota." The arrest occurred in the Agua Bendita area during an operation by the State of Mexico Security Secretariat.

The victim approached state police, reporting that he had been threatened to hand over money for a supposed debt. He explained that he had taken out a 6,000 peso loan six years ago and believed he had fully repaid it by June 2020. However, he continued to receive threats and demands for payment.

According to the victim's account, the suspect forced him to make a 3,000 peso withdrawal and threatened to harm his wife and children if the money was not delivered. The victim provided police with screenshots of messages and deposit slips as evidence.

Jhonarth "N" was apprehended along with the vehicle he was using. Both the suspect and the evidence have been handed over to the Public Ministry for further investigation and legal proceedings.
