(VIDEO) Osun poll: Police confront lawmaker over gathering of voters in residence

Security operatives confronted Nigerian lawmaker Abiola Ibrahim on Saturday for allegedly gathering a large group of voters at his late father's residence in Ikire, Osun State. The incident occurred as voting began for the state's governorship election.

They are voters for the election happening today.

A viral video showed armed police questioning Ibrahim, who represents the Irewole/Isokan Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly. He identified the property as his father's and claimed the approximately 146 individuals present were voters for the ongoing election.

When pressed by officers, Ibrahim, a member of the Accord Party, acknowledged that the crowd included both locals and outsiders. He denied hiring them or promising them anything, stating that voting was their choice and he was not their agent. Security operatives were seen holding Permanent Voter Cards belonging to the individuals.

Some of them are, some of them are indigenes from outside. I did not hire them. I did not promise anything.

The confrontation took place amidst heightened security measures for the election, with the Nigeria Police Force deploying commanders and issuing stern warnings against electoral malpractice, voter gathering, and illegal mobilization.
