Vietnam Gas Prices Surge Over 100,000 VND for 45kg Cylinder; Petrolimex Holds Steady

Vietnamese consumers are facing a significant hike in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, with several major brands increasing their rates by over 100,000 VND for a 45kg cylinder effective May 1. This price adjustment reflects the global surge in LPG costs, particularly the increase in the May 2026 Premium price compared to the previous month. Companies like Vietnam Gas Supply Company (VT Gas) and Long Yin Long An Energy Company, a major supplier in the South, have announced price hikes of 2,250 VND per kilogram (including VAT).

This translates to substantial increases for commonly used cylinder sizes. For instance, VT Gas has reported new retail prices of 323,200 VND for a 6kg cylinder, 646,400 VND for a 12kg cylinder, and 2,424,000 VND for a 45kg cylinder, representing an increase of approximately 4.36% to 4.40%. Long Yin Long An's brands, including City Petro, Vina Pacific Petro, and Vimexco, also saw similar adjustments, with a 45kg cylinder now priced at 2,415,500 VND. These increases are attributed to additional business costs such as insurance, transportation, logistics, and import expenses borne by bulk suppliers.

Amidst these widespread increases, Total Gas Vietnam (PV GAS LPG) has also adjusted its prices, with a 12kg cylinder in Hanoi costing 610,200 VND and a 45kg cylinder priced at over 2,501,000 VND. In Ho Chi Minh City, these prices are 667,081 VND and 2,228,000 VND, respectively. However, not all brands are following this trend. Total Gas Petrolimex (PV GAS) has notably maintained stable prices for its 12kg cylinders, which are priced at 598,104 VND in Hanoi and 592,000 VND in Ho Chi Minh City. The company also keeps prices steady for its 48kg cylinders. The ongoing energy supply crisis in the Middle East is directly impacting the supply, demand, and pricing of petroleum and gas products globally. In response, importers have been actively increasing supply to meet domestic demand. PV GAS reported importing over 45,000 tons of gas from the US in late April, with an expected import volume of around 100,000 tons for May 2026. This additional supply is crucial for the second quarter, which is projected to reach nearly 300,000 tons from various sources, including the US and the Middle East. PV GAS is also increasing domestic production from its Dinh Co and Ca Mau gas processing plants to supplement the national supply.
