Vikingur R. Claims 2-1 Victory Over Hapoel Be'er Sheva in Champions League Qualifier

Icelandic champions Vikingur R. achieved a significant 2-1 home win over Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the first leg of their Champions League qualifying match. The victory gives Vikingur a crucial advantage heading into the second leg.

Valdimar Þór Ingimundarson hit the post early in the match, and Vikingur created several other chances in the first half. Despite their dominance, the score remained 0-0 at halftime. Goalkeeper Aron Snær Friðriksson remained largely untested for Vikingur.

Nikolaj Hansen broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, scoring from close range after a long throw-in and a header. However, Hapoel Be'er Sheva quickly equalized just three minutes later through Kings Kangwa, capitalizing on a defensive error by Daniel Hafsteinsson. A goal for the visitors was later disallowed after a VAR review.

Undeterred, Vikingur pushed for a winner. Hansen sealed his brace and the victory in the 86th minute, tapping in a cross from Óskar Borgþórsson. The win marks a strong performance for Vikingur against a formidable Israeli opponent, with the return leg scheduled for next Wednesday in Hungary.
