Vilius Gaubas makes Wimbledon debut after qualifying triumph

Lithuanian tennis player Vilius Gaubas has achieved a career milestone by qualifying for the main draw of Wimbledon. This marks his debut appearance in the main tournament at the prestigious Grand Slam event.

Gaubas secured his spot after a dramatic victory in the final qualifying round held in London. He battled for nearly four hours, ultimately defeating Serbia's Dušan Lajović in a hard-fought five-set match with a score of 3:6, 6:4, 3:6, 6:3, 6:4. Lajović, a former world No. 23, was ranked 153rd at the time of the match.

In the first round of the main draw, Gaubas is scheduled to face Kyrian Jacquet of France. Jacquet, ranked 139th, also advanced through the qualifying rounds. His final qualifying match saw him defeat Kazakhstan's Timofey Skatov 7:6 (7:5), 6:4, 6:4. Jacquet reached a career-high ATP ranking of 102nd in February.

This Wimbledon appearance follows Gaubas's "lucky loser" entry into the main draw of the French Open earlier in May, where he also made his Grand Slam debut. The Wimbledon qualifying triumph guarantees Gaubas 40 ATP ranking points and a prize of 80,000 British pounds.
