Vilnius Police Nab Eight Drunk Drivers in 24-Hour Period

Vilnius police intercepted eight intoxicated drivers in a single 24-hour span, highlighting a persistent issue with impaired driving in the Lithuanian capital and its adjacent areas. The incidents occurred at various times, from the early morning hours to late at night.

The drivers, all men born between 1954 and 1998, operated vehicles including BMW, Volvo, Lexus, Škoda, Land Rover, Nissan, and Audi. Blood alcohol content levels detected ranged from 1.65 to a staggering 3.01 parts per thousand (promille). In one case, a driver suspected of intoxication refused a breathalyzer test.

One particularly serious incident involved a 23-year-old man driving an Audi in the Šalčininkai district. After consuming alcohol, he drove off the road, damaging a fence and the roof of a nearby house. Pre-trial investigations have been initiated for all eight drivers under Article 281-1, Part 1 of the Criminal Code concerning driving under the influence.
