Volunteer Registration for Expo 2027 in Belgrade Opens May 15

Belgrade is gearing up to host the international specialized exhibition 'Expo 2027,' and the call for volunteers marks a significant step towards realizing this ambitious project. Danilo Jerinić, director of the organizing company EXPO 2027 Beograd, announced that volunteer registration begins on May 15, anticipating a robust response from both domestic and international participants.

We are convinced of a high response from volunteers, especially young people, because Expo is a global event that will not be organized on the soil of Southeast Europe in the next ten years.

Jerinić emphasized the unique nature of Expo 2027, highlighting it as a global event of unprecedented scale for Southeast Europe in the coming decade. This perspective underscores Serbia's ambition to position itself as a key regional hub for international events and innovation. The call particularly targets young people and students, recognizing their potential to contribute energy and fresh perspectives to the exhibition's success.

A key incentive for student volunteers is the opportunity to earn academic credits. Following a decision by the Serbian government, volunteer work at Expo 2027 will be recognized, potentially granting students one to three ESPB (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) points, depending on their hours of engagement. This practice mirrors established European university systems where social engagement is academically valued, as seen during Belgrade's Universiade in 2009.

We especially invite young people and students, both from Serbia and abroad, to apply for volunteering. The Government of Serbia has made a decision that volunteering at Expo is considered voluntary work that can bring each student one to three ESPB points, depending on the number of hours engaged.

From a Serbian viewpoint, Expo 2027 represents more than just an exhibition; it's a platform for national development, showcasing Serbia's capabilities and fostering international cooperation. The emphasis on volunteerism, particularly among youth, aims to instill a sense of civic pride and provide valuable experience. This initiative aligns with broader European trends of integrating practical experience with academic learning, positioning Serbia firmly within the continent's educational and cultural landscape.

The social engagement of students in numerous faculties in France, Spain, Italy, and Germany is valued through the award of academic points. This is a common European practice, which is not new in Serbia. The same principle of awarding academic points for volunteering existed during the Universiade in 2009 in Belgrade.
