Vybz Kartel signs Shenequa as first female artist on his label

Shenequa has become the first female artist signed to Vybz Kartel’s GreedyLion/Vybz Kartel Muzik label, opening a new chapter for the rising singer and songwriter in Jamaica’s Dancehall scene.

Kartel’s team said the deal will provide backing, visibility and creative energy as Shenequa develops her career. Kartel also hinted at possible collaborations between the two artists.

Music, to me, is expressing how you feel on a beat. It’s never wrong or right. It’s an art, so just create your masterpiece and do it beautifully.

Shenequa described music as a form of self-expression and said she wants to challenge the belief that female Reggae and Dancehall artists can reach only a limited level of success. She said her work ethic follows a principle learned in high school: “Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might.”
