Wallet with Portraits Found in Soldier's Grave in Lam Dong

Authorities in Lam Dong province have unearthed a wallet filled with personal photographs and two bottles of oil from the grave of an unidentified soldier at the Binh Thuan Martyrs' Cemetery. The discovery occurred during an excavation aimed at collecting DNA samples for the identification of fallen soldiers.

The excavation is part of a broader campaign to locate, gather, and identify the remains of martyrs. During the process at grave number 38, a wallet and two oil bottles were found. Inside the wallet were several portrait photos, including those of a young man in a military cap and a young woman. Some other images were damaged by time, making identification difficult.

Officials believe these personal items may be linked to the soldier interred in the grave. The wallet and photographs are seen as crucial leads that will be cross-referenced with existing data to help determine the soldier's identity. The hope is that these clues will aid in connecting the soldier with their surviving relatives.

The province has made significant progress in its campaign, completing sample collection at 10 out of 11 martyrs' cemeteries. The Binh Thuan Martyrs' Cemetery, the last site, holds the largest number of graves in Lam Dong, with nearly 9,000. Over 3,400 of these require DNA identification.
