Warsaw prepares for parade with extensive road and bridge closures

Warsaw is set to host a military parade, prompting extensive traffic disruptions across the city, particularly along the Vistula River. Authorities have announced that Wisłostrada, a major artery, and several key bridges will be closed to traffic during specific periods on Saturday, August 8th, to facilitate the event and a planned aircraft flyover.

From the northern side, access to Wisłostrada will be cut off from Trasa AK and Most Grota-Roweckiego. Similarly, access from Aleje „Solidarności” and Most Śląsko-Dąbrowskiego, as well as Most Poniatowskiego, will be restricted. Drivers approaching from Czerniakowska street will only be able to proceed to Trasa Łazienkowska towards the city center or to Most Łazienkowski. Alternative routes for drivers avoiding the closed section of Wisłostrada include Modlińska and Jagiellońska streets, leading to Wybrzeże Helskim, Wybrzeże Szczecińskim, and Wałem Miedzeszyńskim.

Public transportation will also be significantly affected. The Warsaw Municipal Transport Authority (ZTM) has stated that numerous bus lines will operate on detours. During the aircraft flyover rehearsal, scheduled between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM, traffic on Most Gdański, Most Śląski-Dąbrowskiego, and the pedestrian-bicycle footbridge will be completely suspended. If weather conditions prevent the rehearsal on Saturday, it will be moved to Sunday.

Restrictions will extend to cyclists and pedestrians. Bicycle paths along Wisłostrada will be closed from Krasińskiego street to Most Śląsko-Dąbrowskiego. Crossing Wisłostrada at Krasińskiego, Wenedów, Ludna, and Łazienkowska streets will be prohibited, as will the underpass at Sanguszki street. On Sunday morning, pedestrians and cyclists will also be unable to use Most Gdański. Additionally, tram services may be divided, with lines running on either side of the Vistula River, impacting routes such as 1, 4, 6, 18, 20, 28, and 76.

During this time, connections to Wisłostrada will be cut off from the side of Trasa AK and Most Grota-Roweckiego, Aleje „Solidarności” and Most Śląsko-Dąbrowskiego, and Most Poniatowskiego. From Czerniakowska street from the Mokotów side, drivers will only be able to go to Trasa Łazienkowska towards the center or to Most Łazienkowski.
