Water supply to be cut in several Penonomé communities on Thursday for maintenance

Several communities in Penonomé, Coclé province, will experience a temporary suspension of water services this Thursday, August 27th. The National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (Idaan) announced the water cut will occur between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to allow for cleaning of the storage tank at the Penonomé water treatment plant.

This eight-hour service interruption will affect all users supplied by the plant. Idaan officials stated that these maintenance tasks are essential for ensuring the proper functioning of the facilities. A similar cleaning operation was conducted earlier this week at the Capellanía water treatment plant, which serves parts of the Aguadulce and Natá districts.

Idaan's regional director, Arcenio González, highlighted that the institution is reinforcing contingency measures to address the declining water levels in local sources. These conditions have been worsened by the effects of the El Niño phenomenon in the central provinces. Measures include drilling new wells and establishing additional aqueducts to secure supply for the population.

González noted the significant deterioration of water sources in the region, emphasizing Idaan's responsibility to maintain supply systems at full operational capacity. He stated, "The water sources have been deteriorating, and it is Idaan's responsibility to take measures to be 100% operational, because the El Niño phenomenon in the central provinces is strong."

Authorities are advising residents to take necessary precautions and store water before the scheduled work begins on Thursday.
