We won’t underrate Egypt – Ohale

Super Falcons defender Osinachi Ohale has stated that Nigeria will approach their final Group C match against Egypt with the utmost seriousness, emphasizing that they will not underestimate their opponent. The Nigerian team is seeking a victory to enhance their prospects of advancing to the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

Ohale, one of the most experienced players in the squad with a history dating back to 2010 and five WAFCON titles, acknowledged the high stakes. "We already know what is at stake and we are taking it with all seriousness. It will be much better than the previous matches," she said.

Nigeria's tournament began with an unexpected 3-2 defeat to debutants Malawi, followed by a hard-fought 1-0 win against Zambia, despite playing with ten players after Tosin Demehin's first-half red card. These results leave the Falcons with three points, trailing leaders Malawi by three points heading into the final group fixtures.

Egypt has faced a challenging campaign, suffering a 6-0 loss to Zambia and a 3-1 defeat to Malawi, placing them on the verge of elimination. Despite Egypt's struggles, Ohale and her teammates recognize the need for focus and cannot afford complacency as they aim to keep their title defense alive.

Nigeria requires a win against Egypt, coupled with a favorable result in the other Group C match between Zambia and Malawi, to secure a spot in the quarter-finals. The Falcons are competing for an eleventh continental crown and qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.
