West Jakarta Strengthens TB Detection; 42,826 Suspected Cases Served

The West Jakarta City Government is intensifying its campaign against tuberculosis, having provided health services to 42,826 suspected cases as of July 20, 2026. This effort is part of a broader strategy to combat the disease within the capital region.

In the first five months of 2026, health officials detected 6,056 TB cases, a significant increase from the 3,027 cases identified by April 15, 2026. This progress is crucial for meeting the city's target of detecting 11,955 TB cases by the end of the year.

West Jakarta's Health Sub-Agency employs both active and passive detection methods. Active case-finding involves health screenings, free health check programs, and the work of community TB cadres. Passive detection relies on individuals seeking care at health facilities. Rigorous diagnostic procedures, including sputum tests and X-rays, ensure accurate diagnoses.

Officials are committed to eliminating TB in Jakarta by 2030. To achieve this, 4,438 patients are receiving standard treatment. The sub-agency monitors medication adherence and screens close contacts of TB patients, offering preventive therapy to those found to be healthy. Health promotion activities, such as promoting clean and healthy living behaviors and proper coughing etiquette, are also ongoing.
