West Java Agency Probes Dust Pollution in Cipatat Mining Area, Cites Air Quality Concerns

Residents in Cipatat, West Bandung Regency, are facing a daily reality of dust covering their rooftops, a visible sign of air quality concerns. The West Java Environment Agency (DLH) has identified three key pollutants, Total Suspended Particulate (TSP), PM10, and PM2.5, exceeding environmental standards in initial laboratory tests near the Citatah lime factory and mining area.

These findings point to significant dust pollution impacting the region. However, the DLH emphasizes that these results are preliminary. They do not yet form the basis for a final conclusion on pollution levels. More extensive testing is planned at a wider range of representative locations.

The dust is suspected to originate from the activities within the Citatah factory and mining operations, situated close to residential areas. Local authorities are continuing their air quality monitoring. This data will inform the development of appropriate response strategies if subsequent tests confirm the presence of pollution.
