A Uruguayan businessman was killed in a targeted shooting Friday night in Chuy, a Brazilian town on the border with Uruguay's Rocha department. Julio César Acosta Techera, owner of the "Darter" store, which sells dental and orthopedic supplies, was arriving at his home when he was shot. Rocha's police department confirmed the victim's identity to El País and is cooperating with Brazilian police on the investigation.

While initial reports suggested a possible mistaken identity, current information indicates Techera was the intended victim. This hypothesis is strengthened by an incident two weeks prior, where another businessman in the same area was injured in a shooting. That victim was driving a Toyota Hilux, similar to Techera's vehicle, and authorities believe the attack may have been an attempt to assassinate Acosta Techera.

Brazilian police are investigating both incidents as suspected contract killings, although the perpetrators and motives remain unidentified. Reports suggest two individuals on a motorcycle intercepted Techera, with the passenger firing the shots. Acosta Techera had prior criminal record in Uruguay for smuggling.
