Young man killed in Montevideo shooting

A 20-year-old man was fatally shot in the head on Friday afternoon in Montevideo's Marconi neighborhood. Police responded to the scene in Pasaje 50 and Pasaje 21 after the ShotSpotter system detected gunfire around 3:30 PM.

The victim, who had a criminal record and was wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet from the National Directorate of Alternative Measures (Dinama), was found by responding officers. An emergency medical team pronounced him dead at the scene. Investigators secured the area and called for the Scientific Police to process the scene.

During their investigation, authorities recovered 14 shell casings, two bullets, and a 9mm cartridge. The focus of the ongoing investigation is to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify the individuals responsible for the shooting. Separately, in Treinta y Tres, human remains were discovered near the Olimar River after recent flooding.
