The tragic death of 13-year-old Dafne Zapata Quintos at a private summer camp in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, has sparked outrage and demands for justice, with her case going viral on social media. Dafne, who was described as a disciplined student involved in boxing and dance, was admitted to the camp in perfect health on July 13 and died just four days later.

The State Attorney General's Office of Tamaulipas has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Initial autopsy results, validated by the Attorney General's protocols, concluded that the cause of death was asphyxiation by drowning, noting water in her lungs and unspecified bodily injuries. However, Dafne's mother, Alejandra Quintos, has requested an independent medical examination, expressing concerns about the transparency of the care her daughter received.

Accounts of the events leading to Dafne's death differ between the camp's administration and her family. The mother reported being initially told that Dafne had fainted and lost bladder control, later being assured she was stable. However, she was subsequently informed of her daughter's death, with Civil Protection present at the scene.

Adding to the distress, a video sent by Dafne herself on July 15 showed bruises on her face and upper lip, which she attributed to a fall during practice. In contrast, Jorge Luis Ponce, director of the Academia Militarizada Marina Doenitz, vehemently denied any mistreatment or wrongdoing. He stated that the institution followed protocols, consulting a doctor after Dafne's initial fainting spell on Wednesday. The doctor reportedly cleared her, advising rest, and she was exempt from physical activities until she fainted again on Thursday evening before showering.
