Who will replace Cosmin Ghiță at Nuclearelectrica? He studied political science and law before entering the nuclear industry

Cosmin Ghiță’s mandate as head of Nuclearelectrica will end on October 2, 2026. From the following day, Mihai Laurențiu Gioară, the company’s current director for development and participation management, will take over as interim chief executive.

Nuclearelectrica disclosed the change in a report sent to the Bucharest Stock Exchange. Gioară already holds a senior position within the company and has spent the past five years working in the Nuclearelectrica group.

His path into the nuclear industry began elsewhere. According to the CV published by Nuclearelectrica, he graduated from the University of Bucharest’s Faculty of Political Science and completed a master’s degree in national and European policies. He also studied law and public administration, followed by a master’s degree in leadership and human-resources management.

Gioară began his professional career in public administration. He served as an adviser to Bucharest’s deputy mayor in 2013 and 2014, then moved into the energy sector in 2015, joining Electrocentrale București. From 2018 to 2021, he was deputy general manager of Bucharest’s Municipal Energy Company.

He joined the Nuclearelectrica group in 2021 and later held several positions of responsibility, including general manager of Nuclearelectrica Serv. In 2024, he was appointed on a delegated basis as deputy general manager for commercial and development affairs. After the organizational structure changed and that role was eliminated, he became director for development and participation management in October 2024. The position places him in charge of areas linked to the company’s development projects and investments.
